Track Name: They Always Do
Say you’ll be my darling' baby. Say you’ll be my only one.
Say you’ll be my darlin’ baby. Say you’ll be my only one.

Cause you know, things’ll change -they always do -
I still wanna take my chances with you.
Though things’ll be changing, things’ll be changing, things’ll be changing.
They always do.

I can be a little crazy baby. I’ve got lots of messes in my head.
Who am I to tell you what you’re getting into?
Who was I to tell you to get in my bed?
Track Name: Battling Popes
Oh, my god, I think the ocean’s on fire…or else a thousand popes and their balding souls are battling incense. Cause the smoke’s so suffocating and thick, can’t see that solid line between water and sky, water and sky, water and sky.

Last night I dreamt of wolves, five or six, on the path on the road. They were tearin’ at their necks and the blood like winter froze. I was terrified, it chilled me to the bone, so that I was scared to walk home alone.

Oh Jesus I think I might have lost my soul. Keep searchin’ for people and pieces to fill its missing hole. And, I know sunshine I know joy. My feet know the dance I just can’t remember the rhythm.

You know I felt this once before - I was younger, I was tired, I was alone - when tunnel vision turns you cold, and the light seems much too bold. Too bold.
Track Name: That Night in Canada
You’re all thick hides and shipwrecked barns. You’re all neon lights in the motel signs. Burn hot, in your desert cold. Burn hot, in your desert cold. Even in the cities you can hear the howl of the wolves.

You’re all bottle caps and unzipped jeans. You’re all duffle bags, searchin’ for a scene. You’ve got goose bumps, and your skin is cold. You’ve got two left feet and you’re feelin’ old. You’re terrified you won’t be as great as they told you.

Now I can’t picture his face or his name, but I remember how the river ran dry, that night in Canada. Your hair was dreaded and long, it made a nest, as he told us ‘bout the time that he jumped off the edge of America. Of America. Oh, America...gonna make you my home. Oh, America. Ah America. Yeah, America...gonna make you my own.

It’s so bittersweet, thinking about it all, how you rose too fast, leaving nothing to break your fall. Your cake’s half eaten and it’s growing mold. You lined up your cards but then you had to fold. And all you left us is the dust, the glitter and gold.

Your cake’s half eaten and it’s growing mold. You lined up your cards but then you had to fold. And all you left us is the dust, the glitter and gold.
Track Name: Soldier
Soldier I heard you climbed those walls, went back to your island.
But you ain’t got muscles and you’re not so tall, you never could hold me.

Did you find your wife, your child, your husband and your lover and the darker part of your pale, blue eyes?

When you rode the boat, did you stand outside in the weather, did you laugh at the sky and feel a little wild?

How was it when they came for you? Were you down on the rocks by the water? Eyes stuck on the tide?

Were your pockets full of pine needles and small little stones, smoothed down by your thumb, and did your pride fight back, though you knew they had the right, and the papers, and the doctors and the law on their side?

Dear soldier. Soldier dear.
Track Name: The Fallers
There were so many that fell before you, you weren’t the only one.
And I wish it hadn’t happened to you, and I hope you carry on.

When you first fell I thought I saw you reaching, but you drew back your hand.
I know you didn’t want to carry us with you, didn’t want to drag us down.

But you know I would’ve came with you. But you know I would’ve came with you. I would’ve been more than happy to. I wish I’d been there for you.

But you know I would’ve came with you. But you know I would’ve came with you. I would’ve been more than happy to. I wish I’d been there for you.
Track Name: Winter Blues
Hello you Winter Blues, I’ve been expecting you. Them magpies been singing sad songs in my ears. How long do you plan to stay, it don’t matter anyway. I know I’ll get lonesome for those hot summer days.

Sometimes I think of leaving you behind. Shining up my Spanish, heading South for the sun. But you know, as well as I do, I’ve got twins for a heart. And every time I’m running there’ll be half left behind.
Track Name: Ghost Techno
As we drove the trailer - top heavy, half moon climbing cross the city - I was thinking 'bout the stories, 'bout the ghost that you was telling on the street. And ohhhh, how terrified I’d be if you stole the breath right out of me, out of me, in my sleep. Oh how terrified I would be if you stole the breath right out of, out of me in my sleep, in my sleep.

I know that I’ve seen you - in the shadows, in the corners of the sunlight - you’ll be a heron, or a hummingbird, you’ll be swimming in the ocean. I was thinking ‘bout how I held your hand in the hospital and we watched the breath slip out of you, and the breath was slipping out. Where you as terrified as me, when the breath was slipping out of you? Out of me…

Before you go - you really go - you’ve gotta make me see: how will I live without skin? How does one live without skin? 'Cause this world, it hurts so bad sometimes. Cause this world it hurts so bad sometimes.

I once knew a boy - and to him the sound of his beating heart was all and everything - he lived his whole little life in a fish bowl filled with water, so that the sound would echo loud. So that his heart would echo loud.

Cause when your heart echoes loud, you always know every time you skip a beat. Cause when your heart echoes loud, you always know every time you skip a beat. When your heart echoes loud, you always know every time you skip a beat.
Track Name: Kayak Song
We spent the night where the purple shells lie whole, and ghost ships cruise by - you’ll be damned if you close your eyes. Herons blue fly on the early morning prose. Sixteen limbs lie in a tent made for four.

So sing all those old weathered songs, by the light of the fire, a smoke-choked, crackling choir. Sing between the dusk and the dawn, as the tide pulls in tight.

Hey, isn’t life alright?

We spent the night where the purple shells lie whole. When the cold shnuffles in wipe your sleeve 'cross your nose. There ain’t no use wearing those shoes or those clothes - you can dance in the sand without them you know.

So sing all those old weathered songs, by the light of the fire, a smoke-choked, crackling choir. Sing between the dusk and the dawn, as the tide pulls in tight.

Hey, isn’t life alright?
Track Name: Dear Frank
Dear Frank,

I’ve moved to the north - to where you followed my mother, to tell her you loved her - and I’m happy. Been laughing this whole winter through.

Been sleeping in an attic - a mat on the floor - been filling my days with inspiration, and fresh cut flowers. Just like my mama does.

Sometimes I still get that old pit in my stomach, when I think about how you’re never gonna see who I’ve been growing up to be. And all the times that I had while I was becoming.

And I wish that you could meet the boy I’m gonna marry, and I wish that you could be there to tell me I look pretty, and I miss you…it crushes me that you won’t be around.

Did you know that when I pray, the only way I can ever pray, is when I’m praying to you.
Did you know that when I pray, the only way I can ever pray, is when I’m praying to you.
Did you know that when I pray, the only way I can ever pray, is when I’m praying to you.
Track Name: Last Night
Last night I couldn’t sleep - sticks of incense were balanced on my eyelids
and those lonesome valley winds – whistling high in my ears for hours

Tomorrow morning I’ll be gone - traveling west, out to the water
And this softness too will pass - pulled thin like the grass on the hills.

Oh Love, haven’t we had ourselves a time?
